Why did you decide to attend the Med Sales Institute?
After talking with people currently in the industry and the success that MSC has for placing their students post graduation into a position really made me decide to attend this great school. Also, I wanted to set myself up to be ready to step foot into the industry with a good foundation of knowledge and understanding of the products, procedures, & how the sales aspect works.
What was the training experience like at the Med Sales Institute?
The MSC program is rigorous and I enjoyed every minute of it. From the saw bone labs to the mock ORs, the instructors and staff provided me a good foundation to get started and hit the floor running. The content
covered is applicable to the everyday life of a medical sales representative and their tips and tricks to be successful are extremely beneficial.
What aspect of your training most helped you find a job after graduation?
The Dynamic Consultative Sales portion of training was what I was looking forward to the most. Being a nurse already, I lacked the sales aspect of this industry and Brian Beard was able to teach the class exactly how to go about selling these products with regards to short & long product calls, how to highlight key features, and the appropriate way to approach surgeons to start using your product.
What reasons would you give people to attend the Med Sales Institute?
The Career Development team was extremely helpful by assisting the students with what employers wanted to see on resumes & cover letters, how to go about the interview process with attention to detail in answering questions, and how to keep track of what jobs we've applied for and what stage of the interview process we're on. Reaching out to us weekly to check in and see how things were going was also very beneficial to have as we always had a resource to contact when in need.
What is your current job like?
Coming in with pretty extensive clinical knowledge, I gained so much information over human anatomy and physiology and why a patient is actually needing to get a TKA, THA, ACDF, PLIF, etc.
What aspect of your training did you put to use in the interview process?
Coming in with no sales experience, the MSC team helped develop my sales skillset by teaching me ways to approach the surgeons to start using the product(s), how to do short & long sales calls, and what features, benefits, & values to highlight over the products assigned.
What aspect of your training most helped you find a job after graduation?
Networking is huge in this industry, and the instructors were always there to answer questions and provide feedback on how to appropriately reach out to future employers, how to setup our LinkedIn profile, and when to follow up with companies.
What reasons would you give people to attend the Med Sales Institute?
Before attending MSC one might think this is any ordinary sales position, but after doing this rigorous 12 week program there is so much more to learn. From learning all the different procedures and products to learning how to appropriately sell in this industry, MSC sets their students up to be well rounded individuals ready to hit the floor running in this industry.
Please briefly explain your job interview process with your hiring company.
The interview process was lengthy with me having to meet 5 or 6 different people. The hardest part about the interview process was coordinating all the meetings while still working nights as a nurse. I was told after being hired that they were testing me to see if I would follow-up and how I responded when getting no response from the managers and people I was supposed to meet. Having patience and being persistent was what they were looking for and MSC set me up perfectly.
